The Bible uses the marriage metaphor to represent God’s covenant relationship with His people.
“(I) declared my marriage vows. I made a covenant with you, says the Sovereign Lord, and you became mine” (Ezekiel 16:8 NLT).
In this metaphor, God is the husband/Jesus is the bridegroom, and His church is the bride.
Ephesians 5:32 describes marriage as a great mystery: “This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one” (Ephesians 5:31-32 NLT).
The book of Revelation highlights marriage imagery to show the union between Jesus Christ (the lamb) and His people (the bride).
“Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready” (Revelation 19:7-9 NIV).
