Prophetic Babylon = The end-time church unfaithful to the marriage covenant with God. At end times, Babylon grows into a global religious system
Ancient Babylon was a literal physical place in the book of Daniel ruled by Nebuchadnezzar and then Belshazzar. During the sixth century BC, Babylon referred to both the specific capital city and the surrounding Neo-Babylonian Empire.
End-time Babylon is symbolic of a church, or religious system, that abandoned its once pure faith. It is represented as in a marriage covenant an unfaithful woman. Since Babylon is described as a woman (come out of her), Babylon represents a church, a religious system tainted with false teachings.
Ancient and end-time Babylon have similar characteristics with pride being a prime example.
During end-times, God has people who are true and faithful to Him and His covenant relationship who are unknowingly in Babylon. He calls His people out of Babylon when this religious system falls.
“After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. With a mighty voice he shouted: “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!’ She has become a dwelling for demons” (Revelation 18:1-2 NIV).
“And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4 NKJV).
