Praise for Today – A Sweet Word
I like to use the Armor of God (described in Ephesians 6:10-20) to help me stick to my personal health goals. Part of the armor is the sword of the Spirit, the word of God. We can turn to our swords (words from the Bible) any time and use them in a struggle with any temptation.
When I’m trying to avoid high-calorie, high-sugar desserts, Psalm 119:103 is a great Bible verse to use as a sword of the Spirit, along with prayer, to help fight the temptation.
“How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103 (NIV)
Wouldn’t it be great turn to God’s word instead of a sweet dessert? Let’s remember, His word is truly sweet.
Recipe for Today — Banana Bread
Banana Bread

Ingredients
- 3 large ripe bananas
- ¼ cup tahini (see note*)
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ cup almond milk
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup sucanat (dehydrated cane juice)
- 1 Tbs baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ¾ cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts
Steps
- Preheat oven to 350° F
- Spray one loaf pan with cooking spray (or prepare 4 mini loaves)
- In a large bowl mash bananas to liquefy them
- Add other wet ingredients to the mashed bananas and mix well
- In a separate bowl, mix dry ingredients
- Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir together
- Pour or spoon into a pan for one large loaf or a pan for 4 mini loaves
- For 1 large loaf, bake at 350° F for 1 hour; for 4 mini loaves, bake at 350° F for 45-50 minutes. Check to see if it is done by inserting a toothpick or small knife in the center. When you pull the toothpick/knife out, if it comes out clean, the banana bread is done
*Note: I like to get tahini at Sprouts grocery store; it’s all mixed up nicely and sold in prepared tubs along with the natural nut butters. Instead of using tahini, you can grind ¼ cup of sesame seeds in a coffee grinder and add this to the recipe along with 2 Tbs of water.
