Praise for Today – All I Need
I was reading Kevin DeYoung’s book for children The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden this week when I came to a part of the story that made me stop. And I’ve been thinking about it ever since. In the chapter about Abraham, DeYoung explains that God had made a promise to Abraham. DeYoung points out that all Abraham had was God’s promise. Abraham believed the promise, and that’s all he needed.
I stopped right there and thought about how I have this in common with Abraham. I have God’s promise, and this year in this Christmas season, that’s all I need.
Earlier in the week, I received a Christmas card from a long-time friend and was impressed by the verse. I could hear God speaking to my heart as I read it. And I’ve been carrying it around in my heart. Luke 1:45 “Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.”
And even earlier than that, in November on the plane home from Orlando, I chose a random Psalm Psalm 66 and I could feel God’s love and mercy and reassurance, like He directed me right to that Psalm.
These are moments I have felt close to God. He impressed my heart with Psalm 66 and Luke 1:45, and now this reminder about Abraham.
I’m thinking about this today. God has been reassuring me with His promises. And like Abraham, I believe God’s promises. It’s all I need.
